Elsewhere in Europe, the channel comes with many cable and IPTV packages. It stopped being free-to-air in the UK and Ireland on April 30, 2026.

What is CNN International?
CNN International is the global version of CNN. It is a separate channel from the US network that Americans watch at home. It started on September 1, 1985, originally as a service for American business travelers staying in hotels abroad.
Today it has its own anchors and shows for most of the European day. Its main base is CNN’s campus in Atlanta, with studios in London, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and other cities. The feed seen in Europe is run from London. Overnight in Europe, it often simulcasts US CNN shows, so you’ll also see familiar American programs.
Ownership changed this autumn. Skydance, the company formerly known as Paramount, completed its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026, according to ITV News and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. CNN came with the deal, and Mark Thompson remains its chairman and CEO.
How can you watch CNN International live in the UK?
For most UK viewers, the answer is a pay-TV box or a CNN subscription. Free satellite viewing ended this spring, so older Freesat-style setups no longer pick it up.
| UK option | Cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Sky (Sky Q, Sky Glass, Sky Stream) | Part of a Sky TV package | The full linear channel, in HD |
| Virgin Media | Part of a Virgin Media TV package | The full linear channel; it returned in September 2024 after a three-year gap |
| CNN All Access | £4.99/month or £49.99/year (launch offer £37.99 for the first year) | A selection of live CNN International and US channels, plus on-demand video |
| Freeview, Freesat, BT TV | Not available | CNN left Freesat and BT TV in September 2021 |
So if you already have Sky or Virgin Media, CNN International is probably in your channel guide already. Otherwise, All Access is the cheapest official choice. We cover the details, including what changed for old “CNN Live” subscribers, in our CNN All Access UK guide.
What changed on April 30, 2026?
Until this spring, anyone with a satellite dish could tune in to CNN International in the UK and Ireland for free. On April 30, 2026, Warner Bros. Discovery encrypted the signal, The Desk reported. It is now “free-to-view,” which means it works only on approved boxes such as Sky’s. Hotels and hospitals had to switch to licensed equipment through Techlive, CNN’s authorized partner.
Where can you watch CNN International live in Europe?
In most of Europe, the channel is carried by cable, IPTV and satellite operators. Carriage differs a lot by country, though, so check your provider’s lineup.
| Country | Example of official carriage | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Netherlands | Ziggo, channel 503 | In Ziggo’s Kabel TV and TV Standard packages (Ziggo channel page, January 2026) |
| Italy | Sky Italia | Carried encrypted on Hot Bird 13°E, so a Sky Italia subscription is needed |
| Ireland | Pay-TV providers | No longer free-to-air since April 30, 2026; check your provider |
| Germany, France, Spain, Nordics | Varies by operator | Check your cable or IPTV provider’s channel list |
There is also a free option to check. In September 2024, Pluto TV added a CNN International channel in the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, plus a separate CNN FAST channel in several more countries. We could not confirm that both are still running in 2026, so open the Pluto TV app and search “CNN” to see what’s offered where you are.
Can you watch CNN International live in a hotel?
Often, yes. Hotels were CNN International’s first audience, and many still include it in their room TV lineups. What changed in 2026 is the setup behind the scenes.
In the UK and Ireland, hotels, hospitals and other businesses that once picked up the free satellite signal had to move to licensed reception through Techlive, CNN’s authorized partner. So if your hotel’s TV suddenly lost the channel this year, that’s the likely reason. Ask the front desk; the fix is on their side.
Across the rest of Europe, hotel carriage depends on each property’s TV contract. If the channel isn’t in your room, the CNN app or website may still play live video where CNN offers it in that country.
A quick setup tip
Before you travel, check which option works where you’re going. A Sky or Virgin Media app login generally works only inside the UK, while All Access depends on the country you’re in. Planning ahead saves frustration on the night a big story breaks.
Can you stream CNN International live online?
Yes, with limits. CNN All Access is the main official streaming product, and it now covers the US, the UK and Canada. CNN says more international markets will follow in 2027, but no EU country had a launch date as of October 2026.
Live video on CNN’s websites is licensed country by country. In some places, CNN’s live pages simply won’t play. We only recommend official services, so if streaming isn’t offered in your country, use a TV provider that carries the channel instead.
What’s on CNN International live each day?
CNN International has about ten hours of its own live programming on weekdays. These shows were on the schedule in late October 2026, according to Dutch TV listings.
| Show | Time (CET) | Time (UK) | Presenter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connect the World | About 14:00–16:00 | 13:00–15:00 | Becky Anderson |
| Isa Soares Tonight | 19:00–20:00 | 18:00–19:00 | Isa Soares |
| Quest Means Business | 21:00–22:00 | 20:00–21:00 | Richard Quest |
| Amanpour | Varies | Varies | Christiane Amanpour |
One big change is coming. Christiane Amanpour announced on October 19, 2026, that she will leave CNN in June 2027, TheWrap reported. Her daily program ends at the end of 2026, and she will then host a weekly show on CNN International until she departs.
